Meet the Real-Life Actress Behind Hinako Shimizu in Silent Hill F

Japanese model and actress Konatsu Kato has revealed the intense emotional toll of playing the lead role of Hinako Shimizu in the upcoming psychological horror game Silent Hill F.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Kato shared that embodying the troubled protagonist wasn’t easy:

“There were days when I felt like I was losing my mind,” she confessed.

She also noted that she spent a “really long time in the world of Silent Hill” during filming, describing it as a meaningful period for creating the role.

The game’s story is written by Ryukishi07, the renowned author behind the When They Cry series — a collection of eerie, mind-bending murder mystery visual novels. His involvement signals a narrative with emotional depth and unsettling psychological themes.

Set in 1960s Japan, specifically in Kanayama, Silent Hill F aims to explore the “beauty in terror”. Ryukishi07 has also expressed a desire to reshape how female characters are portrayed in the franchise. Rather than a passive victim, Hinako Shimizu is designed to be a protagonist who actively shapes her own fate — a stark contrast to the more traditional roles women have played in past Silent Hill entries.

With Silent Hill F heading to PS5 and developed under Konami’s banner, it’s shaping up to be a haunting return to the franchise’s roots — but through a very new lens.

We’ve got a strong suspicion this story is going to get seriously dark, as you may recall there have been some content warnings attached to the project since it was revealed.
